I am ignorant... please help

Hello all.
I have been listening to the show and have been evolving both politically and as a human for about 5 years now. I find myself in a place right now that I am no longer willing to stay, my comfort zone.
I have been living a life that is sheltered from so many different people and cultures that I find myself unable to relate to people outside of my own group and I would like to change this. I am a married white male, formerly identified as christian, that wants to expand his horizons and understanding not only for his own betterment, but for his family's and son's benefit as well. i just want to sit down with people and have a drink or lunch or dinner or tea or coffee and discuss candidly the issues that affect us all so I can get a new, different perspective and deeper understanding of what it means to not be a white male in America. This, I hope, will lead to making new friends as well as a less ignorant person.
To this end, I would like to ask anyone and everyone that would like to help me in this endeavor to send me a private message here. We can then set up a place and time to meet and talk. I will be in the Fairfax VA area next week, 5/14 through 5/18. I will be working from 4 to midnight, so dinner is out, but if you would like to get together, I would really enjoy having the opportunity to meet and talk with you. I really want to talk with anyone in the LGBT community as well as those that are of a different race or religious faith than I am. Thank you for indulging me and I hope to talk with you soon.

I seem to be the resident gay boy (there are others, I am just the most vocal about full civil rights for gay people) here. Won't be in NoVA this week though. I do travel a lot; if we ever find ourselves in the same city at the same time I'll be happy to meet you at a Starbucks or something and share some conversation.

Heck, I will throw in the "atheist most of my adult life" as a bonus for you.

Hmmm, letting go of the word "boy" 30 years ago still hasn't set in apparently.

I'm sorry that I couldn't meet with you this week, but it turns out my trip was cancelled as well, so I'm still in CT. I would really enjoy having a coffee with you and talking about things. I enjoy reading your posts and I think I could learn a lot from you, as I do on these pages. I think my next trip will be the week of 28 May when I am destined for the lovely city of Pittsfield Mass. So, until we meet, I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Well, I appreciate the fact that you would be willing to put yourself in danger of a lazy serial killer, even if it is from the other coast! If I am ever heading out to the west coast, perhaps we could share a table in your area. Unfortunately, I don't get out that way as much as I'd like, but who knows what will happen. It's is different here, but subtly so. I have noticed that like Texas, there is a strong rebillious streak to the US government. In Texas with the Secession talk once being it's own nation, here things are still seem rooted with the Civil War. Strong Confederate holds in the southern part of the state.

But the media here, even though this is the homeplate of Rush Limbaugh, seems a little more even handed then Texas was.
