G’day, mates!

We had a blast coming on Ustream and chatting with you all.  We’re planning on doing it every Wednesday at 1:30pm.  Here’s the link.

We went live to the East Room of the White House for President Obama awarding the Medal of Honor to Leslie H. Sabo Jr.

Following that we talked to Dean Baker, writes a weekly column for the Guardian Unlimited (UK), the Huffington Post, TruthOut, and his blog, Beat the Press, features commentary on economic reporting. He is the co-director of the Center for Economic Policy and Research.  He chatted about the economy and deadlock in Congress.

Next we welcomed our friends John Avlon (CNN, Newsweek, Daily Beast) and Will Cain (CNN, National Review, the Blaze) in studio.  They discussed Mitt Romney’s time at Bain Capitol, capitalism, and the campaign.

To explain the California debt crisis, we went to Tracy Gordon, fellow in the Economic Studies Program at the Brookings Institution.

It was then time to read emails, followed by Pete asking listeners to call in and tell us how concerned they are about the debt.

Hello darlings!

Today we started things off with talking about our fun Ustream adventure tomorrow.  Go here at 1:30pm tomorrow for our public ideas meeting and chat with us.  We don’t know exactly what to expect, should be fun and hopefully funny.

We then went live to Des Moines, Iowa for Mitt Romney’s campaign speech.  Pete then asked listeners to call in to react.

Our first guest joined us in studio.  He’s Mike Scotti, co-producer and narrator of the documentary, “Severe Clear” and author of the new book, “The Blue Cascade: A Memoir of Life After War“, which comes out today.  He told us about his life and new book.

Then we spoke with Maya MacGuineas, Director of the Fiscal Policy Program at the New America Foundation, a nonpartisan think tank.  She discussed the tax uncertainty in our future.

Pete then hosted a debate of sorts.  We had Eric Segall, from Georgia State University argue the point he makes in his LA Times Op-Ed that same sex marriage is a state issue, while Sonja West of the University of Georgia argued her Slate piece that it’s a Constitution issue.

Then it was email time.

We ended the program with a quick call segment on if you are against compromise in Congress.

It’s Monday, aren’t you pumped?!

To discuss the JP Morgan mess, we went to William K. Black, law professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City and author of “The Best Way to Rob a Bank is to Own One“.

Pete asked listeners to comment on Mitt Romney speaking at Liberty University.

Changing topics, Pete asked conservatives to call in and tell us if they think Wall Street should be regulated or not.

Our next guest was Dr. Jason Johnson, Political Science and Communications professor at Hiram College.  He and Pete discussed the Republican party and Mitt Romney as the nominee.

Then we welcomed in studio filmmaker John Hoffman and Dr. Judith Salerno, who talked about their new HBO documentary “The Weight of the Nation“, which premieres tonight at 8pm on HBO.

Pete then took calls asking people to give solutions to our obesity epidemic in America.

It was then time to read emails.  From there he plaid a new Obama ad which attacks Romney’s work at Bain Capitol, then asked listeners if it’s fair to go after Bain.

It’s the day after Obama made the country gay…  Or something…

The first in studio guest was the Libertarian nominee for President of the United States, Gov. Gary Johnson.  Talked about his libertarian platform and reacted to President Obama coming out for same-sex marriage.

Our friend Barry Ritholtz of the Big Picture Blog, joined us in studio as well.  Pete had listeners call in to talk about economic positions that do not carry weight.

Our next guest was Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the founder and CEO of the Cordoba Initiative, he has served as the Imam of the al-Farah mosque.  He was once the lead cleric associated with the proposed Islamic community center close to the World Trade Center.  He discussed his new book “Moving the Mountain: Beyond Ground Zero to a New Vision of Islam in America”.

Happy President endorsing same-sex marriage day!

Well the President of the United States is gay….er…I mean he came out in favor of same-sex marriage.

The news broke right when we came on air.  So we immediately took calls to get reactions.

Our first guest was civil rights icon, Julian Bond, Chairman Emeritus of the NAACP.  He’s been vocal about getting the African American community behind the LGBT movement.  On our program he reacted to the President’s announcement and discussed civil rights and the same sex marriage movement.

Since Moderate Republican Senator Richard Lugar lost his primary last night in Indiana, we discussed his legacy and the future of his seat/party with John T. Shaw, Congressional Correspondent for Market News International and author of the book “Richard G. Lugar: Statesman of the Senate: Crafting Foreign Policy From Capitol Hill“.

We then took more calls on President Obama’s big announcement.

In studio we welcomed back stand-up comedian and SiriusXM host of the Six Pack on OutQ 108 (Saturdays at 1pm ET), Dave Rubin.  He joined the conversation we had all day on same-sex marriage.

Another day another wiry and unkempt program.

Our first guest was Evan Wolfson, president of Freedom To Marry.  He gave us his take on President Obama’s same sex marriage stance(s).

Based off of this piece in Think Progress, Pete asked listeners to call in to explain why Obama is anti business.

We then welcomed our friends John Avlon, (of CNN, Newsweek, and the Daily Beast) and Will Cain (of CNN, National Review, and the Blaze).  They talked about their favorite movies, the lack of enthusiasm for the election, and more.

Shifting gears, the next guest was Tanya Luhrmann, Watkins University Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford.  Pete interviewed her regarding her op-ed in yesterday’s New York Times, “Do as I Do, Not as I Say“.

We then took calls on Tanya’s op-ed, asking listeners to tell us what they think about the disconnect between Democrats and evangelicals.

Happy Monday, ladies and gentlemen!

Our first guest was Ali Soufan, former FBI Special Agent, national security expert and the author of the book The Black Banners: the Inside Story of 9/11 and the War Against al-Qaeda”.  Ali gave us his take on the the 9/11 Gitmo prisoners and their trails.

We shifted gears to Europe and the major elections from Sunday (France, Greece, Putin swearing in).  To discuss that we spoke to Jeffrey J. Anderson, European Politics expert, and professor and director of the BMW Center for German and European Studies at Georgetown University.

CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent, Dana Bash joined us to talk about this week in Congress, now that their back in session and Sen. Richard Lugar’s contentious fight to stay in office.

Pete had listeners call in who considers themself to be on the fence when it comes to the Presidential race.

Our friend; comedian, actor and CNN personality, John Fugelsang popped in studio for the final hour.  He and Pete discussed the Obama Administration and their take on gay marriage.

It’s Friday, gang!

Job numbers are out and the economy is still growing, slowly…  Pete asked listeners to call in to tell us why this is happening.

Our first guest was Viany Orozco, Senior Policy Analyst at Demos.  She discussed the new Demos study “The Great Cost Shift: How Higher Education Cuts Undermine the Future Middle Class“.

The next guest was healthcare policy expert Dr. Aaron Carroll of Indiana University.  He blogs at the Incidental Economist and answered healthcare questions.

We then wanted to discuss the situation with Chen GuangCheng, the dissident being held in China.  Our guest was Gordon Chang, Forbes.com columnist and author of “Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes On the World” and “The Coming Collapse of China“.  He discussed Chen GuangCheng and the impact on US/China relations.

Pete opened up the phones and we took callers on all kinds of topics.

One more day till Friday, y’all!

We had a very interesting surprise when Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan of Broken Lizard fame (Super Troopers, Club Dread, etc.) joined us in studio.  Kevin is a huge fan of the Stand UP! so we were pumped they wanted to hang out.  They are doing some stand up gigs, so check them out.

With the guys hanging out we took calls on the Occupy movement and where it came from and where it’s going.

We then welcomed Bruce Bartlett, former Reagan and Bush 41 aid.  He discussed his recent articles on tax policy.

Our next guest was Sarah Kliff, Washington Post reporter who covers health policy.  She discussed her recent pieces on Wonkblog.

Switching gears we went to Daniel Freedman, author and Director of Strategy and Policy Analysis at the Soufan Group, an international strategic consultancy, and co-author of the New York Times top 10 bestseller, “The Black Banners: The Inside Story of 9/11 and the War Against al Qaeda”.  He joined us in studio.

Then we went to the President who was at the White House talking about Cinco De Mayo.

It was great hanging with the Broken Lizard guys.  Fun/weird/hilarious episode.

Hello!

The program started off with Newt Gingrich announcing he’s suspending his campaign live in Arlington, Virginia.

Pete wanted to get reactions to President Obama’s speech last night from Afghanistan so he had listeners call in.

Our first guest was Kelly Carlin, daughter of George Carlin she discussed her father, her one man show A Carlin Home Companion, and her Sirius XM show the Kelly Carlin Show.

Next up we talked about the death of Bin Laden, 1 year later with someone who has actually talked with him, Peter Bergen, national security analyst and director of the National Security Studies Program at the New America Foundation.

We continue to discuss Afghanistan with Steve Clemons, Senior Fellow and Director of the American Strategy Program at the New America Foundation, Washington Editor at large of the Atlantic, and his blog is the Washington Note.

Then we took calls on the Afghanistan war and if people still support it.
